Prime is an independent recording artist, from Oakland Park, FL. Born Derix Cunigan Jr, the youngest of four, his early musical influences came from car rides with parents and older siblings. Early exposure to vast types of music gave him an ear for substance, and compelled him to become a student of the game. A few of his many influences are: Tupac, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Nipsey Hussle, & Curren$y.
Although he’s only 21, Prime began recording himself and funding his own career at 13. Prime credits reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” as a pivotal point in his growth mentally and the entrepreneurial mentality carried over to his music. The self-proclaimed Mr.Oakland Park, has released a number of singles and projects over the years, and continues to improve with time. 2018 gave a small glimpse of his true potential with the release of the “32nd&5th:EP”, and the standout track “Hood Motivation”.
In the self-directed video, Prime mobs with a group of friends and neighborhood homies in his signature “OP” shirts, and teaches a class of Hood Motivation 101, as he raps about educating the youth and his peers. To quote his most recent single “Stars”,”What you hearing is a star in the making.”
